As I assembled this shoe rack - which really did only take a few minutes - I looked up momentarily to warn my wife: "At some point in the very near future, there is going to be a huge disturbance in the middle of the night. I just want to warn you now, that noise will be the sound of this rack collapsing."
This is such a "must have" item for anyone with space issues, that I find it shocking that it hasn't been done better. I would gladly have paid twice as much for a piece that wasn't so ugly and poorly constructed. The essential design is great, it's just that someone should have spent another five minutes to make some reasonable decisions. Like using better materials and offering alternate sizes. It's such a simple, basic design that I'm starting to wonder if I couldn't do better with about 4 dollars worth of lumber from Home Depot.
Also, this was advertised as being able to accommodate 24 pairs of shoes. Yeah. Maybe. If you're a 12-year-old ballerina with 24 pairs of size 5 slippers. If you're a big ugly lug like me with a size 13 flipper, it'll take 16 tops. And they have to go in back to front because the racks aren't wide enough.
I'm not unhappy with this item - it hasn't fallen down yet. I shopped around and this was the best option available for my needs. I'm just surprised there aren't a lot of better ones out there.
